The property

Gale House Cottage, dating from the 19th century, is a two-bedroom holiday home combining traditional features with the comforts of a contemporary home.

It is set in a small courtyard, with private parking for one car, in the centre of the attractive town of Ambleside, a perfect base from which to explore the Lake District at any time of the year.

From your door you can explore some of the most stunning walking trails the National Park has to offer.

Everything from a village or lakeside stroll to an exciting trip to the dramatic high fells.

Walk ten-minutes to Waterhead and take a cruise along beautiful Lake Windermere and wonder at the dramatic scenery or hire a boat to explore its secluded bays.

Stay in town and have a drink or bite to eat at one of the excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Browse the specialist shops or catch the latest film at one of the two well-loved cinemas.

Stroll into lovely Rothay park for a riverside walk or play bowls, tennis or crazy golf at the recreation ground.

Go through your front door and store your outdoor gear in the small hallway.

After your journey, why not relax with a drink in your comfortable, contemporary sitting room with dining area and admire the co-ordinated furnishings and stylish décor.

The lovely, log burning stove gives this room a cosy, welcoming feel.

Discover your beautiful, shaker style kitchen finished in a soft grey with granite worktops and small breakfast bar.

Eat alfresco on one of your two patios.

At the end the day, climb the stairs to your spacious double bedroom with super king-sized bed and your cosy twin bedroom.

You will enjoy the family bathroom which boats a cast-iron bath and separate shower.

Read a book on the south facing patio garden or eat alfresco with your favourite drink on the rear terrace.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
